The properties of martensitic stainless steel can be adjusted by heat treatment (quenching, tempering). Has high hardness, good mechanical properties and rust. In the quenched state, the microstructure of martensitic stainless steel is a body-centered tetragonal crystal, which is magnetic and has corrosion resistance in a weak corrosive environment.

Martensitic stainless steel is divided into martensitic chromium stainless steel and martensitic chromium-nickel stainless steel, and martensitic chromium stainless steel can be divided into three types: low carbon, medium carbon and high carbon. Its chromium content WCr can reach 18%, and its carbon content WC can exceed 1.2%.

Martensitic chromium-nickel stainless steel has higher corrosion resistance and toughness than martensitic chromium stainless steel. With the increase of carbon content in martensitic stainless steel, its hardness value also increases. The hardness value of martensitic stainless steel with carbon content Wc of 0.5% can exceed 60HRC.
