304 Stainless steel is not "stainless". The main reasons for the rusting of 304 stainless steel are as follows:

  1. There are chloride ions in the use environment, such as salt, sweat, seawater, sea breeze, soil, etc. Stainless steel corrodes quickly in the chloride ion environment. Therefore, when choosing stainless steel, you must first examine the use environment. For example, a factory has been using oak containers to hold a certain solution containing chloride ions. Due to the age, when planning to replace the container, a stainless steel container was selected as an alternative. The results can be imagined, not long after the leakage accident occurred.

  2. 2. It has not undergone solution treatment, that is, the alloy elements are not integrated into the matrix, resulting in low alloy content in the matrix structure and poor corrosion resistance. 3. Materials without titanium and niobium have a natural tendency to intergranular corrosion. Adding titanium and niobium to the material, together with stabilization treatment, can reduce intergranular corrosion.
