With the demand for production, there are currently few branch industries in which metal processing can be as dynamic as mold manufacturing. Therefore, constantly seeking the latest technology and innovative ideas is an indispensable part of any mold factory. Here are some technical advances that are conducive to creating opportunities or leading the way in mold processing.
First of all, the parallel machining, the core and the cavity of the mold are combined into one part and processed in parallel on the multitasking machine. Using a flexible tilt milling spindle (b-axis) and a reverse turning spindle (c-axis), the cooling holes on the four sides and back of the rectangular workpiece are milled. The core and cavity parts are machined while the workpieces are still integrated. By optimizing the rotation of the turning spindle and the tilting of the milling spindle, the orientation of the tool can be optimized to achieve an improvement in surface roughness and an increase in tool life. The workpiece can also be periodically inverted to facilitate dumping of the chips.
The core and the cavity are then separated and each part is still firmly clamped to the reverse turning spindle. The two sections are each exposed to face by two new sides, and the cooling holes on both parts of the mold are completely drilled in one setup. This method greatly reduces the number of setups and processes compared to conventional machining. Since the two parts of the mold remain in an excellent orientation with each other until they are separated, the precision is also improved.
Second, the ability to drill a five-axis gun and drill a water line with a compound angle makes it possible to improve the cooling performance of large molds. The five-axis gun drilling machine is possible by eliminating many complicated fixtures and achieving good economy. Dies for automotive bumpers, car dashboards and other plastic parts rely on fast and efficient cooling to achieve a competitive production cycle. These solutions are not very attractive, and they do not even meet the customer's desire to reduce the price of the mold.
Mold manufacturing and processing technology: The machine features a programmable rotary table and a cnc spindle head that is 25 degrees more than the lower limit of the normal rotation range and 15 degrees above the upper limit. The machine can be equipped with conventional gun drills, sts (single pipe system) type drills, or both drills. The latter drill with a diameter of 1 inch uses a speed of up to 9 inches per minute for deep hole drilling. The machine's process control system graphically displays oil pressure, flow, feed resistance and torque in real time. This means that the optimum drilling speed can be monitored during drilling and the risk of tool damage can be reduced. The machine is designed for high rigidity, high speed milling, drilling and tapping, and requires an optional tool changer.
