The manufacture of high-performance cutters is mainly done by high-precision machining. The cutters are often cut by heat treatment (machining hardness ≥HRC50) to obtain more precise design dimensions. Therefore, the overall machinability of the cutter body is poor, especially for the slotted cylindrical bar cutting (which is a typical interrupted cut). If the cutter type is not properly selected, the premature failure of the cutter will be very prominent.
At present, the relevant reports on SKD61 mainly focus on the influence of the amount of component additives and heat treatment on its mechanical properties and the research on the surface integrity and fatigue mechanism of the cutting method, and the knife-type matching aspect in the interrupted cutting process. The research has not been reported.
