The ordinary carbon steel wire rolled by the calm steel and boiling steel can be used to draw ordinary carbon steel wire. Their advantages and disadvantages are as follows:
Calm steel: Because deoxidation is complete, the solidification is calm, the steel components are tight, and the toughness is good. It can be used as a mechanical part, but because the shrinkage head needs to be cut off, the utilization rate of the steel ingot is low, and there are more non-metallic impurities in the steel and the plasticity is worse.
Boiling steel: no shrinkage head, the steel ingot can be used for all rolling, and the free discharge of gas when boiling, to promote non-metallic impurities, deoxidation do not need to use silicon, so the plasticity of the steel is good. However, because the composition of the steel is not uniform, and there are occasional inclusions of pores, the rolling tends to become brittle, so that it is not suitable as a part, and burrs may be generated on the surface during drawing. And the carbon content cannot exceed 0.3%.
