to prevent the electroplating brittleness
The surface treatment is usually electroplating, organic and inorganic coating or phosphating, all of which have a common premise that the black oxide scale on the bolt surface must be removed and the bolt must be pickled for this purpose. During pickling to surface treatments such as electroplating, most of the hydrogen intrudes into the bolt surface. Since hydrogen diffusion takes time and the hydrogen concentration does not break until a certain level of concentration is reached, plating must be carefully selected for metal plating. The selection of the type of plating solution is best to prevent hydrogen absorption.
Typically, electroplated bolts tend to seep into and store hydrogen in the steel during pickling and plating prior to plating, and are prone to delayed fractures, especially self-tapping screws, than bolts that are not electroplated. The bolts with tensile strength above 930MPQ must be treated with hydrogen after electroplating. The effect of hydrogen flooding is related to the temperature and time of the treatment. Usually the temperature is 200-250C and the time is 2-4 hours. The temperature should be determined by the matrix material to improve the delayed fracture performance.
